Korneosyytti

Korneosyytti, also known as *Sphaerotheca humilis*, is a species of freshwater snail native to Finland and parts of northern Europe. It belongs to the family Hydrobiidae and is classified within the genus *Sphaerotheca*. This small, aquatic gastropod is primarily found in shallow, clear waters such as lakes, ponds, and slow-moving streams, often in sandy or gravelly substrates.

The shell of korneosyytti is typically conical and measures around 3–5 millimeters in length. It is usually light brown to grayish in color, sometimes with darker spiral markings. The snail itself has a soft, translucent body with a distinct operculum—a hard, protective lid that seals the shell when the snail retracts. Korneosyytti is an herbivore, feeding on algae and detritus, which plays a role in maintaining ecological balance in its aquatic habitat.

This species is of ecological interest due to its sensitivity to environmental changes. It is considered an indicator of water quality, as its presence or absence can reflect the health of freshwater ecosystems. Korneosyytti is not widely studied compared to other snail species, but it is recognized among Finnish malacologists (scientists who study mollusks) for its regional significance.
