Korkeapainepikitseeraus, often translated as high-pressure lamination, is a manufacturing process used to create composite materials. This technique involves bonding together multiple layers of reinforcing material, such as textiles or paper, with a polymer resin under elevated temperature and pressure. The process is designed to achieve a dense, homogeneous, and void-free final product with excellent mechanical properties.

The core of the high-pressure lamination process involves a press, typically a hydraulic press, equipped with heated platens. The materials to be laminated are carefully arranged in layers within the press. These layers consist of the reinforcing substrate and the resin, which can be thermosetting or thermoplastic. Once the stack is assembled, the press is closed, applying significant pressure while simultaneously heating the platens. The heat activates the resin, causing it to flow and impregnate the reinforcing material. The applied pressure ensures intimate contact between the layers and expels any trapped air or volatiles, leading to a consolidated composite.

The specific temperature and pressure parameters are crucial and depend on the type of resin and reinforcing material used. After a sufficient curing or melting and consolidation period, the press is opened, and the laminated panel is removed. High-pressure lamination is employed in various industries, including aerospace, automotive, and electronics, for producing components that require high strength, rigidity, and dimensional stability. Examples include printed circuit boards, decorative laminates, and structural composite parts.
