Koreanische

Koreanische is a German adjective meaning “Korean” or “related to Korea.” It is used to describe nouns connected with Korea, including culture, cuisine, language, people and institutions. The form inflects according to gender, number and case, for example: die koreanische Kultur (feminine singular with definite article), einen koreanischen Film (masculine singular), koreanische Küchen (plural).

In typical usage the adjective is written in lowercase as koreanische, because it functions as a normal descriptive word. Capitalization would only occur if it begins a sentence or appears in a formal title. The root is Korea with the suffix -isch, corresponding to the English adjective “Korean.” The related demonyms for people are Koreaner (male) and Koreanerin (female; the form Koreanische is not normally used as a standalone noun for a person).

German usage often appears in encyclopedic, descriptive or cultural contexts, such as discussions of koreanische Küche, koreanische Kultur, koreanische Politik oder koreanische Wissenschaft. The term can also appear in compound expressions and travel writing to characterize objects, practices or institutions associated with Korea.

A closely related distinction is between koreanisch as the language name (Koreanisch) or adverb, and Koreanische as an attributive descriptor. While koreanisch identifies the language itself or the act of speaking it, koreanische describes items related to Korea in general terms, without designating a language.
