Korduvate

Korduvate is a rural municipality and village in the fictional nation of Veridia, located in the northeastern part of the Veridian mainland along the Kord River. The municipality covers several square kilometers of rolling hills, river valleys, and mixed forests. As of the latest census, its population is about 2,100 residents. The local economy centers on forestry, small-scale farming, and seasonal tourism tied to the river and surrounding countryside.

The name Korduvate is derived from Veridian elements kord ('bend') and avate ('valley'), a reference to the river-bent valley that shapes the settlement.

History: The first recorded mention of Korduvate appears in 1522 regional chronicles. It grew as a timber and mill settlement in the 17th and 18th centuries, benefitting from river transport. In the 19th century it was incorporated into the modern municipal framework of Veridia and gradually diversified into agriculture and crafts. The 20th century brought limited industrial development and steady population change.

Governance: Korduvate is governed by an elected mayor and a nine-member town council. It forms part of the northeastern province within Veridia's administrative structure and participates in inter-municipal cooperation on transport, education, and environmental management. Council elections occur every four years.

Culture and landmarks: Notable features include the 14th-century Old Mill, the Blue Bridge over the Kord River, and the nearby Kordavine Forest Reserve. The annual Kordfest celebrates regional music, crafts, and harvest traditions, drawing visitors from surrounding districts.

Demographics and language: The population is predominantly Veridian-speaking, with minority Eldish and Kora-speaking communities. The area has a young-to-middle-aged profile typical of rural Veridia, with education services centered in a small municipal high school and local vocational programs.
