Kontaktpinnad describes electrical components or connectors whose mating interface is made of protruding metal pins. The term is commonly used in electronics to refer to devices that connect to sockets, headers, or printed circuit boards via pin contacts rather than flat blades or coaxial leads. Pin-based connections are favored for their low cost, ease of automated assembly, and compatibility with standard PCB footprints and breadboard systems.

Common forms include pin headers and male connectors, which can be through-hole or surface-mount. Through-hole pins are inserted into drilled PCB holes and soldered on the opposite side, providing strong mechanical support. Surface-mount pin contacts attach directly to a PCB surface. Pin pitch varies, with 2.54 mm (0.1 inch) being among the most widespread for general-purpose boards, alongside other pitches such as 2.0 mm and 2.54–3.96 mm for more robust or higher-current applications. Pin diameter typically ranges from about 0.5 to 1.0 mm, depending on current rating and mechanical requirements. Housings and polarizing features help ensure correct mating and alignment.

Materials and durability are important: pins are usually copper or copper alloy with tin, nickel, or gold plating to resist corrosion and wear. The plastic or thermoplastic housings provide insulation and strain relief. Applications span prototyping, modular systems, automotive and industrial equipment, test fixtures, and consumer electronics. Design considerations include current rating, mating cycles, environmental exposure, and compatibility with standard connectors and PCB layouts.
