Kontaktmakse

Kontaktmakse, also known as contact payment, is a method of making electronic payments that requires a physical payment card to be inserted or tapped against a point-of-sale terminal. This technology utilizes a microchip embedded within the card to securely transmit payment information.

There are two primary types of kontaktmakse: chip-and-PIN and contactless. Chip-and-PIN requires the user to insert their card into the terminal and then enter a personal identification number to authorize the transaction. This method is generally considered more secure for larger purchases as it verifies the cardholder's identity.

Contactless payment, often referred to as "tap and go," allows users to simply wave their card or a compatible device, such as a smartphone or smartwatch, near the terminal. This is typically used for smaller transactions and does not require a PIN, making it a faster and more convenient option. Both methods rely on secure encryption to protect sensitive financial data during transmission. The widespread adoption of kontaktmakse has led to increased efficiency and security in retail transactions globally.
