Kompressoinnista refers to the study and practice of data compression, the process of encoding information using fewer bits than the original representation. Its purpose is typically to reduce storage requirements and bandwidth for transmission. Compressors can be lossless, which preserves all original data upon reconstruction, or lossy, which allows some distortion in exchange for greater reduction.

In lossless compression, the goal is exact reconstruction by exploiting redundancy in the data.
