Kockázatkezelésében, often translated as risk management, is a systematic process of identifying, assessing, and controlling threats to an organization's capital and earnings. These threats, or risks, could stem from a wide variety of sources, including financial uncertainty, legal liabilities, strategic management errors, accidents, and natural disasters. The goal of risk management is to minimize the impact of these risks through proactive strategies and responsive actions.

The process typically begins with risk identification, where potential hazards are brainstormed and documented. Following identification, risk assessment involves analyzing the likelihood of each risk occurring and the potential severity of its consequences. This analysis helps prioritize which risks require the most attention. Once risks are assessed, risk treatment strategies are developed. These strategies can include risk avoidance, where the organization chooses not to engage in activities that carry the risk; risk reduction, where steps are taken to lessen the probability or impact of a risk; risk sharing, such as through insurance; or risk acceptance, where the organization acknowledges the risk but decides not to take action, often because the cost of mitigation outweighs the potential loss.
