Koaksiaalkaablivõrk

Koaksiaalkaablivõrk refers to a type of network infrastructure that utilizes coaxial cables for data transmission. Coaxial cable consists of a central conductor surrounded by an insulating layer, which is then enclosed by a braided metal shield. This construction provides good shielding against electromagnetic interference, making it suitable for transmitting signals over moderate distances.

In the context of networking, coaxial cable was widely used in early Ethernet implementations, particularly with the 10BASE2 and 10BASE5 standards. These networks typically employed a bus topology where multiple devices were connected to a single length of coaxial cable. Data signals would travel along the cable, and each device would listen for its intended destination. Termination resistors were crucial at the ends of the cable to prevent signal reflections.

While coaxial cable networks were robust and relatively inexpensive to install, they have largely been superseded by twisted-pair Ethernet and fiber optic technologies. These newer technologies offer significantly higher bandwidth, better performance, and greater scalability. However, coaxial cable remains relevant in certain applications, such as cable television distribution and some older data networks that have not yet been upgraded. The simplicity of its design and its inherent shielding properties are still advantageous in specific environments.
