Klímamodellezésben refers to the process of using computer models to simulate the Earth's climate system. These models are complex mathematical representations that aim to replicate the interactions between the atmosphere, oceans, land surface, and ice. They are essential tools for understanding past climate changes, predicting future climate scenarios, and assessing the potential impacts of human activities, particularly greenhouse gas emissions.

The development of climate models involves incorporating fundamental laws of physics, such as thermodynamics and fluid dynamics, along with empirical data and approximations. Different models exist, varying in their spatial resolution, the complexity of the processes they represent, and the specific questions they are designed to address. Some models focus on atmospheric processes, while others are comprehensive Earth System Models that include biogeochemical cycles.

Key components of climate models include parameterizations, which are simplified representations of processes that occur at scales too small to be explicitly resolved by the model's grid. These can include cloud formation, precipitation, and turbulent mixing. Models are rigorously tested and validated against observational data from various sources, including historical records, satellite measurements, and paleoclimate proxies.

The output of climate models is used to project future climate conditions under different emission pathways, such as those defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). These projections inform policymakers and researchers about potential warming trends, changes in precipitation patterns, sea-level rise, and the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. Despite their sophistication, climate models have inherent uncertainties, stemming from limitations in our understanding of certain processes, the resolution of the models, and the unpredictable nature of future human behavior.
