Klippkyst

Klippkyst, also known as a cliff coast, is a type of coastal landscape characterized by steep, rocky cliffs that extend directly into the sea. These cliffs are typically formed through processes of erosion, where waves and other natural forces gradually wear away at the land, creating vertical or near-vertical faces. Klippkysts are common in areas with high wave energy and resistant rock types, such as granite or basalt.

The formation of klippkysts is influenced by several factors, including the type of rock, the intensity and frequency of wave action, and the presence of geological structures like faults or joints that can weaken the rock. Over time, these factors combine to create the distinctive, jagged cliffs that are characteristic of this coastal type.

These features are formed as waves erode the base of the cliffs, creating undercutting and eventually leading to the collapse of sections of the cliff face.
