Kjønnshår, also known as pubic hair, is the coarse, pigmented hair that grows on the pubic area during and after puberty. It typically begins to grow around the same time as other secondary sexual characteristics appear. The development of pubic hair is stimulated by androgens, which are sex hormones present in both males and females. The texture, color, and amount of pubic hair vary considerably among individuals due to genetic factors.

In humans, pubic hair plays several potential roles. It may help regulate temperature in the genital area, reduce friction during sexual activity, and potentially trap pheromones, though the significance of pheromones in human attraction is debated. It also serves as a visual cue of sexual maturity. For some, pubic hair is a natural part of the body, while others choose to remove or style it for aesthetic or personal hygiene reasons.
