Kirjand

Kirjand is a fictional territory that appears in world-building exercises, speculative fiction, and game settings. It is not a real sovereign state, and its depiction varies by author and context.

In many uses, the name evokes a long-standing tradition of writing and books. Some authors derive Kirjand from linguistic elements akin to the Estonian words kirja (writing) or kirjandus (literature), signaling a culture for which literacy and the arts are central to identity.

Geography and governance differ between works. Some render Kirjand as a coastal archipelago with numerous libraries and university towns; others imagine a continental realm whose capital houses a great archive. Political systems range from constitutional monarchies to representative republics, often with a strong scholarly advisory body that influences policy.
