Kinetoplasten
Kinetoplastids, or kinetoplasts (Kinetoplastida), are a diverse group of flagellated, mostly parasitic single-celled eukaryotes. They are characterized by a single, large mitochondrion that contains a specialized DNA network known as the kinetoplast. The kinetoplast houses thousands of circular DNA molecules, including maxicircles and numerous minicircles, and its arrangement is a distinctive feature of this group.
