Kharoh

Kharoh is a city and regional capital in the fictional nation of Avaria, situated on the delta of the Khar River. It is the administrative center of Kharoh Province and a historic trading hub known for its stone architecture and waterfront districts. The name is derived from the old Khara language, meaning "harbor stone."

Kharoh lies at the delta of the Khar River, with fertile plains spreading inland and low hills to the north. Elevation ranges from about 100 to 350 meters. The climate is temperate, with wet winters and warm summers, moderated by sea breezes from the bay. The harbor forms a natural shelter for commercial and fishing vessels.

Kharoh was founded in the 9th century by the Karim clan and grew as a river-based trading post. It developed under the Darsan Empire from the 15th to 17th centuries, before becoming part of the modern state of Avaria. The city gained its current municipal government in 1958 and has experienced significant urban growth since the 1990s.

Today, Kharoh combines traditional crafts with manufacturing, logistics, and port services. The city population is around 230,000. The dominant language is Khari, with minority communities speaking Serin and Lomar. The city hosts Kharoh University (founded 1963) and several technical institutes.

Prominent sites include the Old Fortress, the Stone Harbor, and the City Clock Tower. The city hosts the Spring Market and the River Lantern Festival, reflecting its maritime heritage. Transportation infrastructure includes a rail hub, two major highways, an international airport, and the river and sea port network.
