Kesäperinteitä refers to the summer traditions observed in Finland. These customs are deeply ingrained in Finnish culture and are closely linked to the country's unique summer experiences, characterized by long daylight hours and a strong connection to nature.

One of the most prominent summer traditions is the celebration of Midsummer, known as Juhannus. This holiday, typically falling on the Saturday closest to June 24th, is a time for gathering with family and friends, often at summer cottages. Bonfires are a central element of Juhannus, symbolizing the purification and warding off of evil spirits. Many Finns also enjoy sauna, swimming, and outdoor dining.

Another significant summer activity is enjoying the Finnish archipelago and lakes. Many Finns own or rent summer cottages (mökki) by the water, where they spend their holidays. Activities include boating, fishing, swimming, and simply relaxing in the tranquil natural surroundings. The concept of "mökkielämä" (cottage life) is a cherished part of the Finnish summer.

Picking berries and mushrooms is also a popular summer pastime. Forests are abundant with various berries like blueberries, raspberries, and cloudberries, as well as edible mushrooms. This tradition connects Finns with the bounty of nature and provides ingredients for traditional dishes.

Outdoor festivals and markets are common throughout the summer months. These events offer opportunities to enjoy live music, local food, handicrafts, and social gatherings, contributing to the vibrant summer atmosphere. The fleeting nature of Finnish summer encourages active participation in these outdoor events.
