Keskuskulmiin

Keskuskulmiin is a suburban district located within the city limits of Tampere in Finland. Situated in the northern part of the municipality, it lies approximately twelve kilometres from the urban core and is bordered by the municipalities of Lempäälä to the north and Tampere's own western suburbs to the south. The area is known for its mixed residential character and surrounding green spaces, including the nearby Pyhäjärvi Wildlife Reserve.

The district’s origins trace back to the late 19th century when it developed as a minor agricultural settlement. Its name reflects its central position among several small hills (kulmi) in the region. During the mid‑20th century, the post‑war expansion of Tampere prompted the construction of dedicated residential zones, and the area was officially incorporated into the city’s administrative boundaries in 1977. Since then, Keskuskulmiin has undergone continuous development, featuring modest housing projects and small commercial outlets serving local residents.

According to the most recent municipal census, Keskuskulmiin hosts around 4,800 inhabitants, with a demographic composition typical of Tampere's suburbs: a mix of families, retirees, and a small proportion of students. The population density is lower than in the city centre, resulting in a more spacious and quieter environment. Local schools, healthcare clinics, and community centres cater to the needs of the community.

The economy of Keskuskulmiin is largely service oriented, with many residents commuting to Tampere for work.
