Keménységváltozás

Keménységváltozás refers to the change in hardness of a material. Hardness is a measure of a material's resistance to deformation, such as scratching or indentation. This property can change due to various factors, including temperature, applied stress, and chemical environment.

In metallurgy, keménységváltozás is a critical concept in heat treatment processes. For example, heating and subsequent rapid cooling (quenching) of steel can significantly increase its hardness. Conversely, heating steel to a lower temperature and holding it for a period (annealing or tempering) can reduce its hardness, making it more ductile. These transformations are often accompanied by changes in the material's microstructure, such as the formation or dissolution of phases like carbides or the rearrangement of crystal lattices.

Beyond metals, keménységváltozás is also relevant in polymers, ceramics, and even biological tissues. For polymers, factors like UV radiation, exposure to certain solvents, or aging can lead to a decrease in hardness. In ceramics, thermal shock or mechanical stress can induce cracks or microstructural changes that affect their overall hardness.
