Kehonudotus

Kehonudotus is a Finnish term that broadly refers to body modification. It encompasses a wide range of practices involving altering the human body for aesthetic, symbolic, or personal reasons. These modifications can be permanent or temporary and vary significantly in their complexity and cultural significance.

Common forms of kehonudotus include piercings, which involve creating holes in the body to insert jewelry, and tattoos, which are indelible marks made on the skin by inserting pigment into the dermis. Scarification, the practice of deliberately creating scars on the body for aesthetic purposes, is another form of kehonudotus. Branding, which involves burning the skin to create a scar, is also included. Subdermal implants, where objects are placed beneath the skin to create raised designs, represent a more extreme form of body modification.

The motivations behind kehonudotus are diverse. For some, it is a form of self-expression, a way to assert individuality and reclaim ownership of their bodies.
