Katéterezéshez refers to the process of catheterization in Hungarian. Catheterization is a medical procedure that involves inserting a thin tube, called a catheter, into a body cavity, duct, or vessel. This procedure is used for a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

In urology, catheterization is commonly performed to drain the bladder. This can be necessary for patients who are unable to urinate due to a blockage, surgery, or neurological conditions. Urinary catheters are typically made of silicone or latex and are inserted through the urethra into the bladder. They can be left in place for a short period (intermittent catheterization) or for a longer duration (indwelling catheterization).

Beyond bladder drainage, catheterization has other applications. In cardiology, catheters are used for procedures like angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement to diagnose and treat heart conditions. These catheters are inserted into blood vessels, often in the groin or arm, and guided to the heart. Diagnostic imaging techniques like X-rays are used to visualize the catheter's path.

Other medical specialties also utilize catheterization. For example, in gastroenterology, catheters can be used for feeding (nasogastric tubes) or to drain blockages in the digestive tract. Epidural catheters are inserted into the space around the spinal cord for pain management, particularly during labor or surgery.

The specific type of catheter and insertion technique depends on the intended purpose. While generally safe, catheterization carries risks such as infection, bleeding, or tissue damage, and healthcare professionals take precautions to minimize these complications. Following the procedure, proper care and monitoring are essential.
