Katsastuksena

Katsastuksena is the Finnish term for vehicle inspection. It is a mandatory process that all registered vehicles in Finland must undergo periodically to ensure they meet safety and environmental standards. The inspection is carried out by authorized inspection stations and is a legal requirement for a vehicle to remain on public roads.

The katsastuksena covers a range of checks. These include examining the vehicle's braking system, steering, suspension, tires, lights, and emissions. The overall condition of the chassis and bodywork is also assessed for any signs of significant corrosion or damage that could compromise safety. For commercial vehicles, additional checks related to their specific use may be required.

The frequency of the katsastuksena depends on the age and type of vehicle. New passenger cars typically undergo their first inspection after four years, then every two years, and subsequently annually. Older vehicles and certain commercial vehicles may require inspection more frequently. Failure to pass the inspection can result in a temporary driving ban until the necessary repairs are made and the vehicle is re-inspected.
