Katolilaiset

Katolilaiset refers to Roman Catholics, adherents of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is the largest Christian church, with more than 1.3 billion members worldwide. Its origins trace back to Jesus Christ and his apostles. The Pope, based in Vatican City, is considered the successor of Saint Peter and the visible head of the Church.

Key tenets of Catholicism include belief in the Trinity (God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), the divinity of Jesus Christ, his death and resurrection for the salvation of humanity, and the sacraments. The seven sacraments are Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is central to Catholic worship, where believers receive the body and blood of Christ.

The Church's teachings are guided by the Bible and Sacred Tradition, as interpreted by the Magisterium, which consists of the Pope and bishops. Mary, the mother of Jesus, holds a special place of veneration. Catholic social teaching emphasizes the dignity of the human person, the common good, and solidarity. The Church operates a global network of parishes, schools, hospitals, and charitable organizations.
