Kasvinlisäys

Kasvinlisäys refers to the process of increasing the number of plants. This can be achieved through various methods, broadly categorized into sexual and asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction involves the combination of genetic material from two parent plants, typically through seeds, resulting in offspring with variations from the parents. Asexual reproduction, also known as vegetative propagation, produces new plants that are genetically identical to the parent plant.

Common methods of kasvinlisäys include sowing seeds, which is a fundamental form of sexual reproduction. For asexual reproduction, techniques such as cuttings, where a piece of stem, leaf, or root is taken from a parent plant and induced to form roots, are widely used. Grafting, another asexual method, involves joining a part of one plant (the scion) onto the root system of another (the rootstock). Layering is where a stem is induced to root while still attached to the parent plant before being detached. Division, particularly for herbaceous perennials and bulbous plants, involves separating a mature plant into smaller sections, each with its own roots and shoots. Tissue culture, a more advanced laboratory technique, allows for the rapid propagation of plants from small pieces of tissue or cells under sterile conditions.
