Benign tumors are non-cancerous growths that do not invade surrounding tissues or spread to other parts of the body. They often grow slowly and are typically well-defined, encapsulated masses. These tumors arise from cells that have undergone uncontrolled growth and mutation. Malignant tumors can be further classified based on the tissue from which they originate. Carcinomas arise from epithelial cells, which line many surfaces of the body, including the skin and organs. Sarcomas originate from connective tissues, such as bone, cartilage, muscle, and fat. Leukemias and lymphomas are cancers of blood-forming tissues and the lymphatic system, respectively. Melanomas are cancers of pigment-producing cells in the skin.
