Karstalue is a karst landscape region in the central part of the fictional continent of Elaria. It is defined by dissolution features formed in soluble carbonate rocks, including sinkholes, caves, and extensive underground drainage. The terrain has developed through long-term chemical weathering, driven by water chemistry, climate, and tectonic activity.

Geography and geology: The area spans roughly 7,000 to 9,000 square kilometers of karst plateau and foothills, with elevations from 150 to 1,100 meters. Bedrock consists mainly of limestone with dolomite bands. Thin soils and rapid infiltration promote dissolution, creating dolines, fissures, and cave networks. The climate ranges from temperate to subhumid with seasonal rainfall.

Hydrology and ecology: Karstalue hosts extensive cave systems and subterranean rivers. Surface streams disappear into ponors and reemerge as springs in a dynamic groundwater network. Caves host speleothems such as stalactites and flowstones. The region harbors specialized flora on exposed rock and troglobitic fauna, including bats and invertebrates adapted to dark, stable microclimates. Groundwater protection is a conservation priority.

Human use and conservation: Humans have occupied cave entrances for millennia, and today Karstalue is valued for science, tourism, and cultural heritage. Multiple areas are protected as nature reserves or geoparks to preserve hydrology, caves, and biodiversity.
