Kapselluckor

Kapselluckor is a Swedish term that refers to the lid or closing component of a capsule. The word is used in contexts such as pharmaceutical capsules and consumer capsules used in beverages and foods. In the pharmaceutical industry, hard capsules consist of two connected halves: a body and a cap. The cap, or kapsellucka, is the upper portion that closes the capsule. The two halves are typically made from gelatin or hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC). The cap must fit tightly to prevent leakage, ensure accurate dosing, and allow a predictable dissolution profile. Quality control includes dimensional tolerances and leak testing, and the joining of cap and body can involve tamper-evident features or specific encapsulation processes.

In consumer packaging, kapselluckor can refer to the peelable sealing lid on coffee capsules and other food capsules. This lid is often made from aluminum foil laminated to plastic and serves as a barrier against moisture and air, while also preserving aroma and freshness. It is removed before use in the brewing process.

Sustainability considerations include the use of animal-based gelatin versus plant-based alternatives such as plant-derived polymers, and the recyclability or compostability of the capsule and its lid. Regulations govern labeling, safety, and material standards in pharmaceutical and food-grade capsules, and ongoing innovation seeks to improve barrier properties, dissolution behavior, and environmental impact.
