Kaotusetunne

Kaotusetunne is Finnish for a subjective sense of disorder, lack of coherence, or overwhelm in either one’s internal state or external surroundings. It is not a formal clinical term but a descriptive expression used in everyday language and in some psychological discussions to capture a particular experience of distress related to chaos.

Causes of kaotusetunne are diverse and often situational. Information overload, rapid life changes, high stress, sleep deprivation, sensory overload, and traumatic experiences can contribute. It frequently arises in modern urban settings, during crises, or in moments of transition. Individual factors such as personality, coping style, and prior mental health can influence its intensity and duration.

The experience typically involves impaired concentration and decision-making, a reduced sense of control, and heightened anxiety. It may lead to avoidance, impulsive actions, or a sense of disconnection from one’s environment. While it can accompany anxiety, mood disorders, or attention difficulties, kaotusetunne is not itself a diagnostic category but a descriptive phenomenon that can appear in various mental health contexts.
