Kampukset

Kampukset, the plural form of kampus in Finnish, refer to the physical areas that host a higher education institution's teaching, research, and student support activities. A kampus may be a single site in a city center or a network of sites spread across urban or rural areas. Typical components include lecture halls and classrooms, laboratories, libraries, offices, student services, housing, dining facilities, and recreational spaces. Campuses often include green spaces, pedestrian zones, and connections to public transport, making them centers of student life and academic activity.

Many universities operate on multiple kampukset, which can be specialized (e.g., science campus, humanities campus) or geographically distributed to be near partner communities and employers. Campus planning emphasizes accessibility, cross-disciplinary interaction, and sustainability, with shared facilities and digital infrastructure enabling collaboration across sites. Architectural styles reflect historical development and institutional identity, ranging from historic campuses to purpose-built modern complexes or repurposed industrial sites.
