Kaksinaamaisuus, also known as hypocrisy, refers to the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform. It is a form of pretense where an individual or group presents a public persona that is at odds with their private actions or true character. This discrepancy can manifest in various ways, including advocating for certain values while secretly acting against them, or publicly condemning behaviors that one privately engages in.
The term originates from the Greek word hypokrites, which originally referred to an actor or stage player.
