Kútrendszerek, often translated as "well systems" or "water well systems," refer to the infrastructure and methods employed for extracting groundwater from underground sources. These systems are vital for providing water for various purposes, including drinking, irrigation, industrial use, and livestock. The fundamental component of a kútrendszer is the well itself, which is an excavation or borehole drilled into the earth to reach an aquifer, a layer of rock or sediment that holds groundwater.

The design and construction of a kútrendszer vary depending on the depth of the aquifer, the type of soil or rock, and the intended water usage. Common types of wells include dug wells, driven wells, and drilled wells. Dug wells are typically shallow and wide, often lined with brick or stone. Driven wells, also known as sandpoint wells, are created by driving a metal pipe with a screened end into shallow aquifers. Once a well is established, a pump is usually installed to bring the water to the surface.
