Käynnistysvalikot, known in English as boot menus or startup menus, are temporary interface elements that appear during the computer startup process, before the operating system fully loads. Their primary purpose is to allow the user to select specific boot options or access advanced system settings.

A common type of käynnistysvalikko is the boot device selection menu, which enables the user to choose which storage device (e.g., hard drive, SSD, USB drive, CD/DVD drive) the computer should attempt to boot from. This is particularly useful when installing a new operating system from a USB stick or DVD, or when troubleshooting boot issues.

Another type of käynnistysvalikko is the advanced startup options menu. This menu typically offers access to system recovery tools, safe mode, startup repair, command prompt, and other diagnostic utilities.
