Kääntösäteen
Kääntösäteen, often translated as turning radius, refers to the radius of the smallest circle a vehicle can complete. This measurement is crucial for maneuverability, especially in confined spaces like parking lots or narrow streets. The kääntösäteen is typically determined by the vehicle's steering geometry and wheelbase. A smaller kääntösäteen indicates a tighter turning ability, allowing the vehicle to navigate turns and U-turns more easily. Conversely, a larger kääntösäteen means the vehicle requires more space to make a turn. Manufacturers often specify the kääntösäteen in vehicle documentation and specifications. This value can be expressed as either the curb-to-curb turning radius or the wall-to-wall turning radius. The curb-to-curb measurement is the distance from the center of the turning circle to the point on the outer front tire. The wall-to-wall measurement accounts for the additional space needed to clear obstacles, making it a more practical figure for real-world driving. For trucks and buses, a smaller kääntösäteen is particularly important due to their longer lengths and the need to maneuver in commercial areas.
