Jäähdytysnestepaine refers to the pressure within a vehicle's cooling system. This pressure is crucial for maintaining the optimal operating temperature of the engine. The cooling system circulates a mixture of antifreeze and water, known as coolant, through the engine block to absorb excess heat. This heat is then dissipated through the radiator.

The cooling system is designed to operate under pressure. This elevated pressure raises the boiling point of the coolant, preventing it from boiling at normal engine operating temperatures. A pressurized cap on the radiator or expansion tank maintains this pressure. When the coolant heats up, it expands, and this expansion increases the pressure within the system. If the pressure exceeds a certain limit, a relief valve in the cap opens, allowing excess coolant or steam to escape into the expansion tank.

Conversely, as the engine cools down, the coolant contracts, causing a vacuum. A one-way valve in the cap allows coolant to be drawn back from the expansion tank into the system, keeping it full and maintaining pressure. Monitoring and maintaining the correct coolant pressure is important for the longevity and efficiency of the engine. Low pressure can lead to overheating, while excessively high pressure can damage components like hoses or the radiator. Issues with coolant pressure often indicate a problem within the cooling system, such as a leak, a faulty cap, or a malfunctioning thermostat.
