Jäykkyysanalyysi, known in English as stiffness analysis or rigidity analysis, is a fundamental concept in mechanical engineering and structural analysis. It deals with understanding and quantifying how a structure or mechanical component resists deformation under applied loads. Essentially, it is the study of how much a system will bend, stretch, or compress when subjected to forces.

The core of stiffness analysis involves determining the stiffness matrix of a structure. This matrix mathematically relates the forces acting on a structure to the displacements it experiences. A higher stiffness value indicates that the structure requires a larger force to produce a given amount of deformation, implying greater rigidity. Conversely, a lower stiffness value suggests that the structure is more flexible and deforms more easily under load.

This analysis is crucial for designing safe and functional structures. Engineers use stiffness analysis to predict how bridges, buildings, aircraft, and machine parts will behave under various operating conditions. It helps ensure that components do not deform excessively, which could lead to failure, reduced performance, or aesthetic issues.
