Jäljityskiertojen, also known as trace circuits or ghost circuits, refers to a phenomenon in electronics where unwanted current paths are formed in a printed circuit board (PCB). These unintended pathways can arise from various factors during the PCB manufacturing process or through the degradation of components over time.

The formation of jäljityskiertojen can be attributed to several causes. During etching, imperfections in the photolithography process or mask misalignment can lead to the creation of narrow, unintended traces. Solder bridges, where solder unintentionally connects two adjacent traces, can also create such pathways. Furthermore, contamination or moisture ingress between conductive layers or components can facilitate current flow where it's not supposed to be. Over time, material degradation, such as the formation of conductive dendrites or corrosion, can also establish these parasitic connections.

The presence of jäljityskiertojen can have detrimental effects on electronic device performance. They can lead to unexpected signal coupling, noise injection, and erratic behavior. In sensitive circuits, even very small unintended currents can cause significant functional issues. In some cases, these circuits can cause short circuits, leading to component failure or even fire hazards.
