Juoteliitos

Juoteliitos is a Finnish term referring to a soldered joint. It is a metallurgical process used to join two or more metal items together by melting and putting a filler metal (solder) into the joint, the filler metal having a lower melting point than the adjoining metal. The heated metal is then touched with a solder and the filler metal melts, flows into the gap and after cooling the joint is made. Soldering is commonly used in electronics, plumbing, and jewelry making. The strength of a soldered joint is generally lower than that of a brazed or welded joint. The process requires careful cleaning of the surfaces to be joined and the use of a flux to prevent oxidation. The solder itself is typically an alloy of tin and lead, although lead-free solders are increasingly used for environmental reasons. Different types of solder have different melting points and properties, and the choice of solder depends on the application.
