Jarrut

Jarrut is a small town and municipality in the northern lowlands of Nordaria. It lies along the Jarrut River, about 70 kilometers northeast of the national capital. The municipality covers roughly 68 square kilometers and includes a mix of farmland, pastures, and deciduous forest. The name Jarrut is believed to derive from an old term meaning river bend.

Jarrut's origins lie in a medieval riverside settlement that developed around a bridge and a crossroads. The town received a local charter in the 14th century and grew gradually through agricultural trade. Industrial activity began in the 19th century with the establishment of mills and a wood-processing workshop, complemented by the arrival of a regional rail line that linked Jarrut to nearby towns.

Economy and infrastructure: Today the economy is diversified, with agriculture and forestry forming the traditional base and small manufacturing and services contributing a significant share. The town center hosts family-run shops, a market square, and a small logistics facility. Jarrut is connected by regional roads and has a railway station on the Nordaria line; the nearest regional airport lies about 60 kilometers away.

Culture and landmarks: The community hosts an annual harvest festival and a winter market. Notable sites include the medieval Church of Saint Benedict, the remnants of Jarrut Castle, and the Old Mill Park, which preserves historic machinery and a preserved water wheel.

Demographics and governance: The population is around 4,500 residents. As a municipality, Jarrut operates a council-led government headed by a mayor. The local administration conducts official business in the Nordarian language, with multilingual education available in nearby schools.
