Jalankulkuvalot
Jalankulkuvalot, often referred to as pedestrian signals or crossing lights, are traffic control devices designed to manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow at intersections. Their primary purpose is to provide a safe and orderly means for pedestrians to cross roadways. Typically, these signals operate with a two-phase system: a walk signal, often represented by a walking person symbol, and a don't walk signal, usually a hand symbol or a flashing hand. The walk signal indicates that pedestrians may begin to cross, while the don't walk signal signifies that they should not enter the crosswalk. A flashing don't walk symbol usually means the crossing interval is ending, and pedestrians should finish crossing if they have already started.
The implementation of jalankulkuvalot has significantly improved pedestrian safety by reducing conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles.
