Jahorina

Jahorina is a mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina, part of the Dinaric Alps. It lies about 25 kilometers southeast of Sarajevo, near the town of Pale, and is administratively part of Republika Srpska. The highest point rises to roughly 1,900 meters above sea level. The slopes are forested with a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees, with rocky outcrops at higher elevations. The climate is mountainous, with snowy winters and milder summers, supporting year‑round outdoor use.

Jahorina is a developed ski resort with lifts and a network of runs serving skiers and snowboarders. It gained international attention as a venue for the 1984 Winter Olympics held in Sarajevo, when competitions were staged on its slopes. In addition to winter sports, the area attracts hikers and mountain bikers in summer, who come for panoramic views of the Sarajevo basin and surrounding peaks.

Access is by road from Sarajevo, with local services linking the resort to the city. The closest international airport is Sarajevo International Airport, and regular bus services connect the resort with nearby towns and hotels.

The mountain is a defining feature of the region’s winter tourism and represents a key part of the nearby Sarajevo outdoor recreation network.
