Jadelijk

Jadelijk is a fictional town and municipality in the western European‑inspired country of Verdenia, located in the coastal province of Westhaven. It serves as the administrative seat of Jadelijk Municipality and functions as a local center for governance, education, and culture.

Jadelijk covers about 42 square kilometers and lies along a tidal river with a linked network of canals and green belts. The municipality has a population of about 11,200 people (2020), with a median age around 41 years and a mix of families and long-term residents.

Jadelijk originated in the 12th century as a small fishing hamlet and grew after the construction of a fortress in the 14th century. It gained municipal status in the 16th century and became part of Verdenia in the early 19th century. The town preserved a compact historic center with later 18th‑ and 19th‑century renovations.

The local economy is mixed, with logistics and services centered on a regional canal port, light manufacturing on the outskirts, and agriculture in surrounding farmland. Jadelijk is connected by a regional highway and has a railway station on the Verdenia Central Line, plus a comprehensive bus network.

Culturally, Jadelijk preserves a compact town center with stone houses, a town hall dating from the 18th century, the Jadelijk Fortress ruins, and the Local History Museum. The annual Harvest Light festival and seasonal markets attract visitors from the region.
