Isoleerlüliteid, also known as disconnectors or isolators, are electrical devices used to isolate sections of an electrical circuit. Their primary function is to provide a visible break in the circuit, ensuring that a particular part of the electrical system is de-energized and safe for maintenance or repair. Unlike circuit breakers, isolator switches are not designed to interrupt current under normal load conditions or to break fault currents. Attempting to operate an isolator under load can cause severe damage to the switch and pose a significant safety hazard due to arcing.

Isolator switches are typically found in high-voltage applications, such as substations and power transmission lines, as well as in industrial and commercial electrical installations. They are often used in conjunction with other protective devices like circuit breakers. For example, a circuit breaker might first interrupt the current, and then an isolator switch is operated to provide a clear physical disconnection.

The construction of isolator switches can vary, but they generally consist of conductive blades that move to open or close the electrical contacts. The position of these blades is often visible, confirming the state of isolation. Some isolators are operated manually, while others are motor-operated for remote control or in situations where manual operation is difficult.
