Isiksushäired

Isiksushäired, or personality disorders, are a group of mental health conditions characterized by enduring, inflexible patterns of inner experience and behavior that deviate markedly from the expectations of an individual's culture. These patterns typically manifest in two or more of the following areas: cognition (ways of perceiving and interpreting oneself, others, and events), affectivity (the range, intensity, lability, and appropriateness of emotional response), interpersonal functioning, and impulse control.

The onset of isiksushäired is typically in adolescence or early adulthood. The patterns are pervasive and stable over time, leading to significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. These disorders are not simply a temporary reaction to stress or a consequence of another mental disorder, although they can co-occur with other conditions.

Diagnosis of isiksushäired involves a comprehensive assessment by a mental health professional. Treatment often involves psychotherapy, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) or psychodynamic therapy, which aims to help individuals understand their patterns, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and improve interpersonal relationships. Medication may be used to address co-occurring symptoms like depression or anxiety, but it does not directly treat the personality disorder itself. Isiksushäired are complex conditions that require a skilled and sustained therapeutic approach.
