Ishockeymålet

Ishockeymålet, often referred to as the goal in English, is a crucial piece of equipment in the sport of ice hockey. It consists of a net attached to a metal frame, measuring two meters wide and 1.22 meters high. The frame is typically made of red tubular steel, designed to withstand the impact of pucks and players. The net is usually white and made of durable nylon or polyester mesh, intended to stop the puck and clearly indicate when a goal has been scored.

The primary function of the ishockeymål is to define the scoring area on the ice. A goal is scored when the puck completely crosses the goal line and enters the net. The goal frame is positioned at each end of the rink, centered on the goal line. Goaltenders are responsible for defending the ishockeymål, preventing the opposing team from scoring.

Ishockeymål are designed with safety and standardization in mind. The dimensions and materials are regulated by governing bodies such as the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and the National Hockey League (NHL) to ensure consistency across different rinks and competitions. The net is anchored to the ice to prevent it from being easily dislodged, though under certain circumstances, the goal can be knocked over by player contact or puck impact. This often results in a stoppage of play and a review to determine if a goal was scored prior to the net being displaced.
