Irreducibilitás refers to the property of a mathematical object, most commonly a polynomial or algebraic expression, that cannot be decomposed into simpler, non-trivial factors within a given algebraic structure. The concept is fundamental in algebra and number theory, particularly in the study of polynomial equations and field extensions.

In the context of polynomials, a polynomial is considered irreducible over a field if it cannot be factored into the product of two non-constant polynomials with coefficients in that field. For example, the polynomial \( x^2 + 1 \) is irreducible over the real numbers because it cannot be expressed as a product of two linear polynomials with real coefficients. However, it factors into \( (x + i)(x - i) \) over the complex numbers, demonstrating that irreducibility depends on the underlying field.
