Ironjaws

Ironjaws was a renowned heavy metal band from the United Kingdom, formed in 1989. The group consisted of vocalist Phil Taylor, bassist Bob Skiba, guitarist Phil Whittall, and drummer Ymer Wallin from Sweden. Initially gaining attention in the UK, Ironjaws released their debut single, "In the Time of Decay," in 2004, followed by their self-titled EP.

Ironsides was Ironjaws' first full-length album, issued in 2002. The album was critically acclaimed within the metal scene, particularly for its highly regarded thrash metal sound. The critical reception and modest commercial success led to the development of a dedicated fan base.

Subsequent releases, such as the single "Shield of the Absurd" and the full-length album "Et Tu," also received positive reviews from critics. Ironjaws' music was characterized by their intense, often progressive and aggressive, songwriting style, which was closer to prosaic thrash metal than to other subgenres of heavy metal music.

Information on the band's history is scarce, with a general sense that Ironjaws remained active until 2014 and was on indefinite hiatus since. The album "Et tu" proved to be their last recording and it is uncertain what changes took place within the band that led to the decision to halt operations.

Though ultimately a small and underground metal band, Ironjaws' unique, intense music carved out for themselves a niche within the heavy metal genre. Indie labels took notice and showcased newer bands while ironically Ironsword dared take tribute from where it got its very sound from.
