Ymer
Ymer, also spelled Ymir in various translations, is the primordial giant of Norse mythology. In the major Norse sources, such as the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda, Ymer is described as the first being from whom the world and its inhabitants originate; he is also the progenitor of the race of frost giants. The name Ymer is used in some Scandinavian traditions, with Ymir as the more common Anglicized form in English-language retellings.
