Inventoried

Inventoried is the past tense and past participle of the verb to inventory. It denotes that a systematic count and recording of items has been completed.

In business and logistics, inventoried items are those whose quantities, locations, and attributes have been tallied and entered into a record or database. The inventory process can cover raw materials, finished goods, equipment, or other assets, and may occur as a full physical inventory or as part of a cycle-count program.

Counting methods vary: physical counts performed at specific intervals; sampling approaches in large inventories; and automated scanning using barcodes or RFID to improve speed and accuracy. After counting, discrepancies between actual counts and recorded quantities are investigated and adjustments are made, with results affecting stock levels and, in many cases, financial statements.

Inventoried data supports asset management, internal controls, and purchasing decisions. Accurate inventoried records help identify shrinkage, obsolescence, or misplacements, and inform budgeting and forecasting. In libraries, museums, and archives, inventoried holdings help track holdings, conditions, and locations.

Etymology and usage: the term derives from inventory, with the suffix -ed indicating past action. In some varieties of English, the related verb is inventorise (British English) or inventorized.
