Internazionale

Internazionale, in Italian meaning international or foreign, is used as an adjective and in the names of organizations. In popular usage, it is most closely associated with FC Internazionale Milano, a professional football club based in Milan, Italy.

The club, commonly known as Inter or Inter Milan, was founded in 1908 by a group seeking to create a club open to foreign players after a split from Milan Cricket and Football Club. Inter plays its home matches at the San Siro, officially Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, a stadium shared with AC Milan. The team’s colors are blue and black, which give rise to the nickname Nerazzurri.

Inter has been one of Italy’s most successful clubs, with multiple domestic league titles and cups, and three European Cup/Champions League trophies. The club achieved a historic treble in the 2009–10 season under coach José Mourinho, winning Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League in the same year.

Beyond football, the term internazionale is used in Italian to describe international affairs or organizations. It also appears in the formal names of other clubs and institutions that emphasize international scope, though in sports the best-known example remains FC Internazionale Milano.
