Intermodulatsiooniproduktideks are unwanted signals that are generated when two or more signals with different frequencies mix within a nonlinear electronic device. This mixing process creates new signals at frequencies that are sums and differences of the original frequencies, as well as their harmonics. These newly generated frequencies are known as intermodulation products.

The presence of intermodulation products can be problematic in various electronic systems, particularly in radio frequency (RF) communication. For instance, in a receiver, if a strong unwanted signal mixes with a desired signal, the resulting intermodulation products can fall within the passband of the receiver, appearing as interference that can degrade the signal-to-noise ratio or even mask the desired signal entirely. Similarly, in transmitters, intermodulation products can be radiated out of band, causing interference to other services.

The severity of intermodulation distortion depends on the degree of nonlinearity in the device. Amplifiers, mixers, and even passive components like cables can exhibit nonlinear behavior. Designers of RF systems strive to minimize intermodulation distortion by employing linear components, carefully managing signal levels, and using filtering techniques to reject unwanted signals before they enter nonlinear stages. Understanding and mitigating intermodulation products is crucial for ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of many electronic systems.
