In social sciences, interaction types can describe how individuals or groups relate to each other. Examples include cooperation, where individuals work together towards a common goal; conflict, where opposing interests lead to friction; and competition, where individuals strive to achieve a goal that only one can attain. These types shape social structures and influence collective behavior.

In computer science, interaction types refer to how users engage with systems or how different software components communicate. This can range from direct manipulation interfaces, where users interact with virtual objects, to command-line interfaces, which require specific textual commands. API (Application Programming Interface) interactions are another example, defining how software programs exchange data and functionality.

In biology, interaction types describe the relationships between different species. Predation, where one organism hunts and consumes another, is a clear example. Mutualism, where both species benefit from the interaction, and commensalism, where one species benefits and the other is unaffected, are other significant types. Parasitism, where one organism lives on or in another and harms it, also falls under this category.
